Formal structures, plans and systems show how work in an organization is specialized and coordinated, how the organization manages its structural problems, its employees and users and how it renews itself.

Structures and management systems are made explicit through objectives, strategies and planning documents, as well as instructions and priorities . Overall, the systems tell us about who has the right or duty to be a role holder and where, what problems they should consider, how to solve them, what outcome and to whom their advantage. Organization charts and associated documents should visualize how this is related. The map must therefore be analyzed in order to capture such details.
