Line organizationA line organization is based on functional division (specialized units). Its purely cultivated form (military hierarchy) means that each individual person has only one direct superior
Order and responsibility conditions are unambiguous in a line organization. Directives go down and reporting goes up. The bridge (French: la passerelle) or the transition between horizontal line levels is allowed only by arrangement. Such transitions are rarely allowed between vertical levels. But the transition can be distorted due to inertia in the system. This form of organization is therefore often combined with unambiguous delegations. The result can be a line / staff organization.
